Sylvia Jean Ladage

She was born on April 6, 1934 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of the late Trobia and Gladys (Vail) Shadwell. She married Charles A. “Sonny” Ladage, Jr. on November 3, 1957 in Effingham, IL and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2007.

Sylvia retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham, IL. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, cooking, and shopping.

Sylvia is survived by 3 children, Pam Mendenhall of Springfield, Cheryl (husband Bob) Giacomini of New Berlin, IL, and Steve (wife Kjarsti) Ladage of Heyworth, IL; 9 grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Amanda, and Mark Mendenhall, John (wife Jenae) Ladage, Jane (husband Kevin) Kauffman, Rebecca, Daniel, and Charlotte “Charlie” Ladage; 2 step-grandchildren, Jill (husband Nick) Naumovich and Jennifer (husband Kyle) Scroggin; 2 step great-grandchildren; Brother Duane (wife Joyce) Shadwell of Effingham, IL; a brother-in-law J.C. Barnett of Shreveport, LA; 3 sisters-in-law, Wanda Ladage of Chatham, IL, Lois Ladage of Springfield, and Amelia Ladage of Taylorville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Emogene and Imogene Shadwell and Phyllis Barnett.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, where visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm. Additional visitation will be on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 9 am until time of the funeral service at 10 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham, IL. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Clarence Rogers. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
