He was born on September 29, 1943, at St. John’s Hospital, the son of Roland Anthony and Marion Charlotte (Peters) Tranquilli. Terry married the love of his life, Janie McCormack, on May 2, 1970.
Terry graduated from Riverton High School and Eastern IL University. In 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division. Terry was honorably discharged. In the 1970s, he earned his master’s degree from Sangamon State University. He was employed as an agent with the first class of the Illinois Bureau of Investigation. Terry was a Deputy Director of the Illinois Local Law Enforcement Officers Training Board. Lastly, he was the Assistant Director of Internal Affairs for Public Aid. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3914 in Riverton, and also served on the Riverton School District School Board for eight years. Terry’s interests included hunting, fishing, watching military and history shows, watching car races, learning country and ballroom dancing, and in his earlier years, he enjoyed racing dirt bikes in Motocross. He loved spending time as “Boppa” with Giana and Ava. Terry loved his family and their family get-togethers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Terrance is survived by his wife, Janie Tranquilli of Springfield; daughter, Tara (Brian) Bowles of Springfield; grandchildren, Sebastian Murdock of Brooklyn and Giana and Ava Bowles of Springfield; siblings, Tallulah Redeford of Springfield, Ron Tranquilli of Algonquin, and Lynette Barnett of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Graveside Ceremony will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
