Terrence L. Pencek, M.D., PhD

Terrence L. Pencek, MD, PhD, 68, of Springfield, died at 5:32 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Joseph's Home. Dr. Pencek was born August 24, 1947 in Chicago, the son of Robert and Lillian Stefula Pencek. He married Billie Kay Coy on March 3, 2001 in Las Vegas. Dr. Pencek earned his doctorate from Rush Medical School and was employed with SIU School of Medicine. He then entered into private practice before retiring as a Department Chair at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur after more than 30 years of service. He was very active at St. John's Lutheran Church where he served Communion. He was a member of Panther Creek Country Club, the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and was the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery for SIU School of Medicine. Terrence enjoyed golf, traveling, especially to London, Paris, or anywhere near water, and scuba diving. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Billie Pencek of Springfield; son, Jason Michael Pencek of Chicago; step-children, Lacey (husband, Peter) Grimwade of Springfield, Clayton Chamberlain of RI, Cole Chamberlain of Auburn, and Bree Chamberlain of Auburn; step-granddaughter, Ivy Kay Grimwade; siblings, Roger (wife, Stephanie) Pencek of AZ and Pamela (husband, Joseph) Best of Virginia Beach, VA; father-in-law, Dennis (wife, Judy) Coy of Springfield; mother-in-law, Joyce McAfee-Sebring of Springfield; grandmother-in-law, Ruby Hart of Springfield; and his loving dogs, Zoey and Lusie. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2477 W. Washington, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastors Greg Busboom and Ladd Sonnenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
