Theodore “Ted” Thomas Hasselbring, 89, of Springfield, passed away on Monday July 9, 2018 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born on March 9, 1929 in St. Louis to Edwin T. and Vivien A. Hoagland Hasselbring. Ted married Dot Shelton in St. Louis on April 18, 1953 and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2018.
Mr. Hasselbring is survived by two daughters: Jean (Eric) Brown of Decatur and Janet (David) Sloman of Pawnee, four grandchildren: Daniel and Jonathan Brown of Decatur and Garrett (Danielle) Sloman of Carrollton, TX., and Matthew (Brenda Chavez) Sloman of Coppell, TX., three great-grandchildren: Schaeffer, Charlotte and Beckett Sloman and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Wayne, Rae, Robert and John Hasselbring.
Ted graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis and served in the Naval Air Reserve at Lambert Airport in St. Louis for nine years. He worked at Merck Pharmaceuticals where he met his wife followed by a twenty year career in sales. Ted and Dot owned and operated the Baskin Robbins Store in Fairhills Mall from 1977 until 1993. He was an Assistant Sunday School Superintendent at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in La Grange, IL., and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield where he was active in the Senior Bible Study. Ted enjoyed ice cream, reading, sailing and traveling, especially to Camp Arcadia, a Lutheran Family Camp in Arcadia, MI. .
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 14, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran School, 515 South MacArthur Blvd, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Friday at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity school.
