

Thomas "Tommy" E. Hubbard, 70, of Springfield, went to be with his beloved wife, Dorothy, in Heaven at 11:55 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Taylorville Care Center. Tommy was born on September 15, 1943 in Springfield, the son of Lyman and Vella Cloyd Hubbard. He married Dorothy Stemmons on January 6, 1972 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Springfield. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2008. Tommy graduated from Riverton High School. He retired from Crowne Plaza where he worked as a doorman for over 14 years. Tommy never met a stranger and if he did, he acted like he knew them. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lyman, Johnny, and Jimmy. He is survived by his siblings, Marion (husband, Earl) Sutherland of Seattle, WA and Homer Hubbard of Springfield; nine children, Brandon Harvell (wife, Emelda) of Atlanta, GA, Yvonna Harvell-Lee (husband, Patrick Lee) of Brooklyn, NY, Shane Harvell of Brooklyn, NY, Donald Carter (wife, Patricia) of Springfield, Richard Muhammad (companion, Stephanie) of Springfield, Cynthia Johnson (companion, Alonzo) of Columbia, MO, Kris Johnson of Springfield, Vivian Johnson of Columbia, MO; and Scott Johnson (companion, Kathrine) of Mahomet, IL; thirty grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. The family will host a Memorial Gathering from 11 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 908 S. Martin Luther King Drive, Springfield, with Pastor Charles Ferguson officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Tommy may be made to: Samantha Johnson, at any Illinois National Bank branch.
