Thomas M Peterson

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Peterson; his daughters, Jennifer Peterson and Caitlin Peterson; and his cherished grandson, Cole Thomas Wells. He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. John (Jeanne) Peterson and Timothy S. Peterson and nieces and nephews.

Born in 1947, Tom dedicated his life to service. He proudly served in the United States Army in South Korea & Vietnam. Upon returning, he earned his second Bachelors Degree in Computer Science followed by a long career as a systems analyst for the State of Illinois. Tom was admired by his loved ones alike for his dedication to taking care of his family, his strength, his determination, his dry wit, and his unwavering commitment.

Tom found joy in the simple things—spending time with his dogs, family time, and, most recently, time spent with his grandson. He lived with integrity and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to God.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL, at 11:30 am. The family will greet family and friends from 10:30 am until the time of the service. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Tom’s life.

The family asks that you honor Tom’s memory by sharing stories and memories of him to be cherished. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Parkinsons Association.
