

Velma B. Elmore, 88, of Springfield, formerly of Chatham and Curran, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005 at St. John’s Hospice. Velma was born August 28, 1916 in Sangamon County, IL the daughter of James and Phebe Duffy Stephens. She married Grady W. Elmore on June 20, 1933 at South 7th Street Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on September 11, 1986. Mrs. Elmore was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was also a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church. She enjoyed being with her family. She was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters and two grandsons. Surviving are five children: Mary Evelyn (husband, Robert) Fulton of New Berlin, Grady Wesley (wife, Mary) Elmore, Jr. of New Berlin, Donna Elaine (husband, Gary) Ogden of Shelbyville, Barbara Joann (husband, Dennis) Mumaw of Chatham and Patricia Jean Bartel of Springfield; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Ogden, Dennis Mumaw and Paul Mumaw officiating. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery in Gardner Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O.
