

She was born April 19, 1921 in Springfield the daughter of Harry Wesley and Helen Peterson Meador. She married Clarence R. Evans October 30, 1940 in Palmyra, Mo. and he preceded her in death in 1998.
After graduating from Divernon High School, Velma attended MacMurray College for two years. She worked as an advertising rep for WTAX AM before running Evans Advertising during World War II. She retired from the advertising business to stay home and raise their two children. In 1964 she returned to the advertising agency. She went to work for the State of Illinois in 1969 in the Disability Determination Unit leading the Inquiries Unit. She retired from the State in 1982.
Mrs. Evans was a congregant of First Christian Church of Springfield since 1942 and Haines City, FL from 1988 to2004. She was the past president of many groups including the Springfield Lioness Club, Springfield JayShes, Christian Womens Fellowship, and Hazel Dell PTA. She was also a member of AFSCME.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed making beaded jewelry. She also loved card games, board games, computer word games, and Bingo.
She is survived by a son, Larry L. (Betty) Evans of Glenpool, OK; a daughter, Gaye Evans of Sherman, IL; 8 grandchildren, Karla (Wayne) Timm of Bloomington, IL, James S. (Katie) Evans of Olathe, KS, Shari Lynn (Paul) Loeffler of Moses Lake, WA, Michael E. Teitler of Decatur, IL, Rand S. Teitler of Clarksville, TN, Terry (Trudy) Earnest of Brenham, TX, Theresa (William) O'Quinn of Jessup, GA, and Tonie Tanner of Joshua, TX; 15 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; and 3 Cousins
Visitation: Saturday Feb. 1, 2014 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel
Funeral: 11:00 AM Saturday Feb. 1, 2014 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rick Irwin officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in her memory to First Christian Church of Springfield.
