

Verna Delares Charles, 72, of Springfield, died at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at St. John’s Hospital. Verna was born on February 10, 1934 in Springfield, the daughter of Vernie and Hettie Pratt Miller. She was a former member of Church of the Little Flower. She was employed as a hairdresser and owned and operated her own hair salon. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly J. Charles. She is survived by her son: Kenneth R. Shores, Jr., of Springfield; two grandsons: Shawnadese Charles of Greenview and Richard Shores of Monticello, GA; two half-brothers: Vernie (wife, Karen) Miller of Sherman and David (wife, Debra) Miller of Ashland and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Robert N. Porter, officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shawn R. Charles Education Fund, C/O ALUUC, 745 Old Woodside Rd, Springfield, IL 62711.
