

He was born on July 17, 1960, in Frankfort, Germany, the son of Ernest and Gretchen (Lueschen) Wurtzler. As the son of a United States Army officer, he lived in several states before his family finally settled back to Springfield in the 1970s.
Victor graduated from Glenwood High School in 1978, and earned his associate’s degree while proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force, Army National Guard, and Illinois Air National Guard, where he earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He retired from the Illinois Air National Guard after 30 years as a command chief and later worked for Scott Air Force Base as a private contractor. Victor enjoyed collecting, driving, and rebuilding cars, and was an avid lover of both history and politics. In his later years, he enjoyed travelling, spending time with his family, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Victor is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Fritchman and Stephanie Boesdorfer, both of Springfield; grandchildren, Lu Boesdorfer, and Heidi, Brock, and Hannah Fritchman; siblings, David (Liz) Wurtzler of England, Lisa (Gus) Wurtzler-Borow of Arizona, Dawn Wurtzler of Springfield, and Paul (Lynn) Wurtzler of Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark McWilliams officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided.
