

Vince was born June 24, 1928, in Greenview, IL, the son of William H. and Marguerite (Doyle) Looby. He married Earlona Williams on June 23, 1956, in Springfield.
Vince graduated from Greenview High School in 1947, attended Springfield Jr. College, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and Illinois Air National Guard for 37 years, retiring as a Colonel. Vince was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Elks, and served as chair and board member at Heartland Credit Union. He also was the President of Senior Services of Illinois for 15 years and on the Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission for 16 years. Vince loved sports, coaching youth teams for many years, and he was a die-hard Cubs fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William P. Looby; and sister, Ruth L. Kauffman.
Vince is survived by his wife, Earlona “Lonnie” Looby of Springfield; sons, Jim (Melinda) Looby of St. Louis, MO, William Looby of Springfield, and David Looby of Troy, IL; daughters, Ann Marie Young of Springfield, Lynn Marguerite of Chicago, and Amy Looby of Springfield; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer (Matthew) Doering, David (Alyssa) Castor, Sean Looby, Matt Looby, Molly Looby, Emily Looby, Isaac Looby, Andrew Looby, Thomas Looby, Daniel Looby, Logan Looby, and London Looby; great-grandchildren, Jack Castor, Holden Looby, Charlotte Doering, Charlie Castor, and Joshua Doering; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, IL. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with The Very Rev. Daniel J. Bergbower, V.F., celebrant. Mass will be streamed by St. Agnes Catholic Church at https://www.facebook.com/stagnesparishspringfieldil/
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
