Vivian Louise Hill Povse, 96, wife and mother, of calm, practical sensibility and warm humor, died on July 24, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center. Born September 4, 1921, in Virginia, IL, to Florence and George Allen Hill. Vivian was preceded in death by her brother Robert; her dear husband, Stanley P. Povse; beloved son, Paul D. Povse; and son-in-law, Denis Beveridge. Vivian was a 1939 graduate of Feitshans High School. She worked for Sangamo Electric, soldering condensers for radio transmitters for the U.S. Army during WW II. She married Stanley Povse on July 25, 1946, in Mt. Sterling, IL. The pair enjoyed an existence of simple pleasures, growing their own food, fishing, golfing every day and spending time with family. Vivian and Stan especially enjoyed dinners and dancing at the Blue Ridge Club at Lake Springfield. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church (St. Katharine Drexel Parish). Vivian was the mother of two children, Paul David Povse (d. Feb. 14, 2018), (Donna) and Arlene Beveridge, (Denis, deceased). Her daughter Arlene was her devoted caregiver in recent years. She was a kind grandmother to Patrick (Julie), Ryan (Sarah), and Maureen Sherry (Adam) of Festus, MO, Elizabeth McGinly (Drew) of Wake Forest, NC, Colin (Katie), and Noah (Amanda) Beveridge and Nora Povse Lauer (Stuart). She was the loving aunt of several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed 16 great grandchildren, watching movies hand-picked by Paul, reading the newspaper and walking 2 miles a day into her 96th year. She suffered the loss of her only son Paul recently with resolute feelings of heartache and unfairness--a mothers ultimate grief. Per Vivians request, no services were held. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 722 S. 12th, Springfield, IL 62703.
