

He was born on March 8, 1930, in Normal, IL, the son of Harry and Henrietta (Kilbride) Hodde. A graduate of the 1948 class of Springfield High School. Wally earned recognition in the Springfield Hall of Fame in 1946. He was also on the Springfield High School Football team that was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame. He attended Georgia Tech.
He served his country with honor as a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army, a role he felt especially proud of.
Wally retired from Schlumberger Sangamo as District Sales Manager and moved back to Springfield.
He loved to play tennis, bridge, golfing, and traveling. His favorite passion was fishing, which started as a child at the family cabin on Lake Matanza Beach, where he continued fishing into his 90s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry E. Hodde; and a stepson, Brad E. Dodge.
Wally is survived by the love of his life, Joan Dodge Hodde who he married in 1985; son, Walter Deane Hodde, Jr., of New Smyrna Beach, FL; daughter, Adele Hodde of Springfield, IL; step-son, Craig Dodge of Springfield, IL; four grandchildren, Keona Hodde, Dustin (Lacey) Hodde, Alana (Randell) Black, and Grace Dodge; and three great grandchildren, Bre Monroe, Allison Black, and Charlee Renn Hodde.
Memorial & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends at 9:30 am, on Monday April 6, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62703, until the time of the Ceremony at 10:30 am with Celebrant Judy Woerner, officiating.
Graveside Services will immediately follow at 12:00 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Rd., Springfield, IL 62707.
