Walter was born July 30, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Walter Allen Sr. and Mary Margaret Gates Shiffer.
At the age of sixteen, he went to work for Western Union delivering telegrams on a bicycle. Walter was also a cook for awhile and a carhop on roller skates for Steak n Shake. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After the army, Walter was employed with AIG, formerly Franklin Life, in security until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida and the southern states.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Karen Barrow.
He is survived by his spouse, Thomas Tebrugge of Springfield; sister, Pat (Byron) Howie of Springfield; one niece; and three nephews.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
