Wanda Ann Alexander

Wanda was born on December 24, 1922, in Springfield, the daughter of Anthony and Stella (Jillaski) Turchinsky. She married John George Alexander on September 29, 1945 in Washington, D.C.

Wanda proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She worked at International Shoe Factory and then Bunn-O-Matic until her retirement. Wanda was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved playing bingo and poker. Her family knew to never call her during a baseball game or when Judge Judy was on.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John; her parents; brothers, William “Willie,” and Bernard “Bernie” Matulevich; and sisters, Bernice Kasper and Helen Ascher.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (John) Fulgenzi of Springfield, John H. (Sarah) Alexander of Springfield, Gary G. (Billie) Alexander of Springfield, and Pat (Mike) Ed of Key Largo, FL; grandchildren, John John (Keli) Fulgenzi of Chatham, Jeff (Annette) Fulgenzi of Sherman, Joel (Shannon) Fulgenzi of Springfield, M-J (Cindy) Ed of Key Largo, FL, Gary Alexander of Springfield, Aaron Alexander of Springfield, Megan Ed of Miami, FL, and Angela Merrifield of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Nico, Annie, Ellie, Devin, Cooper, McKenna, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Kate, Drew, Courtney, and Demrion; great-great-grandchild, Ari; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, IL. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1024 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, IL, with Rev. Kevin Mann, S.J.C, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity. Family and friends may view the Mass via livestream at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021

A private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
