

Wendell D. Woolfolk, 94, of Springfield, died at 11:28 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at his home. Wendell was born February 20, 1919 in Scottville, IL, the son of Robert and Hattie Story Woolfolk. He married Ruth VanBebber on February 10, 1945 in Alton, IL. Wendell was a graduate of Scottville High School and proudly served our country in the Army during World War II. Prior to his military service, he worked at a steel mill near Alton, IL and after leaving the military, worked as a grain elevator manager. He was later employed as the Property Control Manager for Andrew McFarland Zone Center until his retirement. Wendell was a member of Scottville Christian Church-Illinois Chapter, the Polka Lovers Klub of America, Disabled American Veterans, and the State Employees Retirement Union. He enjoyed dancing; especially polka, but also ballroom, and square dancing. He also loved spending time with his family and flower gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Walter Woolfolk; and two sisters, Cleo Claussen and Mildred Turner. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Woolfolk of Springfield; son, Daniel (Alberta) Woolfolk of Springfield; daughter, Marsha J. (Michael) Brim of Springfield; three grandchildren, Lindsey (Dusty) Rhodes of Springfield, Amy (Rich) Powell of Bloomington, and Elaina Hunt of Heyworth; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ataiva, and Colton Rhodes of Springfield, and Logan and Isabella Hunt of Heyworth; sister-in-law, Frances VanBebber of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies in Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Scottville West Cemetery.
