

William F. "Bill" Apperson, 95, of Springfield, died at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at St. Josephs Home. Bill was born on December 30, 1922, in Wichita, KS, the son of Forrest William and Ruby McInerny Apperson. He married Shirley M. Bland on June 22, 1955, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on July 4, 2006. Bill attended Millikin University. He became a professional musician in the 1940s. After playing in several bands, he became a sound engineer with NBC in Chicago. As part of NBC, he helped set up Channel 20 in Springfield. He then owned and operated Allied Office Service until his retirement. Bill loved his music, his dachshunds, movies, golf, and was an avid reader. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Apperson. He is survived by his son, James Apperson of Decatur; daughter, Judy (husband, Joe) Howard of Springfield; granddaughter, Sarah (husband, Anthony) Smithson of Durham, NC; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur, IL with Rev. Joseph Molloy officiating.
