I met Bill several years ago when I started working at Scheels. He immediately became one of my favorite co workers because of how nice he always was. Bill always had a positive attitude, he was never cranky even if he had a stressful day at work. I always loved talking to him throughout the work day, he was not just another co worker. It always made me happy going into scheels even years after not working there, just to see some of my old friends such as Bill. I share my deepest condolences to his wife, kids, family and friends. Bill always talked about his wife. I only got the chance to meet her once but she was very kind and just as beautiful as Bill had said she was. He always loved to talk about his kids and family. I am so very sorry to Bills loved ones. He will be missed by so many.

I am so surprised and saddened with the passing of your beloved Bill. I met Bill probably 30+ years ago when he lived in Lincoln. He was very much a gentleman and a Christian man. Once I married and moved to Springfield, I ran into him at West Side Christian Church where he was in a performance. I actually hadn't kept up with his life, but remembered him telling me about his wonderful wife and how good she always smelled...funny thing to remember isn't it? I can't help but wonder what took the life of this amazing man who seemed to have so much life to give. Please accept my sincere sympathy....

My name is Daniel Lockett and I was youth minister at the First Christian Church Bethalto, Illinois when Bill was in high school. I practically lived with the Bartons in the late 60's and loved the family dearly. It was my first church while attending Lincoln Christian University. I have fond memories of life at the Bartons with great times (too many to mention), only knowing life in a St. Louis Children's Home.
I know Bill has graduated to receive his diploma with inscribed words "William E. Barton, you have fought a good fight, finished your course, and kept your faith. Therefore enter into your new home prepared for all those who have loved and served the Lord."

Bill had a way of making you feel like you were long time friends, even when you had just met! His smile was genuine and his interest in whoever he was talking to was to be totally engaged. He was committed to church and missions because he was first and foremost committed to God. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to all of the family on your loss, even though he is truly "home".

I remember meeting Bill for the first time at Rochester Christian Church. I’ll never forget how kind and welcoming he was towards me. His demeanor was always warm and gentle. He truly cared about and for others...he was a true servant! I’m blessed that I was able to know him. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of a wonderful man. I know young Bill (Will) is an exceptional young man...that comes from being influenced by an exceptional father! God bless.
