

William "Bill" R. Hershey, 84, of Springfield, died at 3:05 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Bill was born May 12, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Roy Z. and Miriam Endslow Hershey. He married Barbara A. McGahan on August 15, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA. Bill graduated from Edgewood High School in 1948 and earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University. He was employed with Borden for eight years, Dairy Queen for fourteen years and Prairie Farms for over twenty years. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold J. Hershey; and sister, Jane E. Chaffe. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hershey of Springfield; two daughters, Rebecca "Becky" (husband, Michael) Doerfler and Wendy (husband, Phillip) Wilson, and son, Charles W. Hershey all of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Christopher (wife, Bridget) Doerfler, Bethany (husband, Brian) Caton, James (wife, Megan) Doerfler, Marisa (husband, Blaine) Marty, Emmy (husband, Jake) Klunick, Melanie (husband, Joe) Wise, and Heather Wilson; nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony and Gathering: Memorial Ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Family will receive friends following the ceremony until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
