He was born on January 15, 1941 in Springfield the son of the late William Forrest and Maude Esther (Hillis) Volker. He married Wendy Hill on October 10, 1964 in Springfield and she survives.
David served in the U.S. Army. He had worked as a truck driver for Goodwill Industries. Prior to that he had worked as a baker at Amrhein’s Bakery in Springfield. He enjoyed working on cars, going to the races and mowing on his tractor. He also had and loved to ride motorcycles.
Besides his wife Wendy, he is survived by his 2 daughters, Melissa Sterling and Katherine (Joe) Woodside, both of Springfield; 2 grandsons, William Forrest (Travis Norville) Sterling of Plant City, FL, and Ethan Carter Sterling of Springfield; and his sister Bess Jean Schaefer of Nokomis, IL.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 10:30 am until time of the funeral service at 12 Noon. Rev. Chuck Goodman will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery, Farmingdale, IL.
