William F. "Bill" Grant

William F. “Bill” Grant, 86, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, March 16, 2023, at his home. Bill was born in Fairbury, Illinois, May 12, 1936, the only son of Paul F. and Ruth (Austin) Grant. His parents, his step-mother, Helen Grant, and his sister, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Grant, preceded him in death. Bill earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1957. While at Notre Dame, Bill was proud to serve as the Student Manager of The Fighting Irish football team. His pride and devotion to his alma mater continued as he was a strong and faithful member of the Notre Dame Club of Central Illinois. Bill spent his entire 37-year career at Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS) primarily in Finance, serving as Assistant Treasurer and Controller, among other positions. His financial skills and attention to detail enhanced the company’s efficiencies and fiscal results. He retired in June 1994. He was a life member of the ELKS #158 in Springfield, a longtime member of the Tuesday Night Golf League, and a diehard fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Bill married Janice Hoffman in Rockford, Illinois, on April 27, 1963, and she survives. Together they were blessed with three children: Melinda (Ken) Miller of Port Lucie, Florida, Dennis Grant of West Hollywood, California, and Jennifer Grant of San Rafael, California. Bill is also survived by his grandson, Brad (Rozy) McCurley and great grandson, Riley, of Port Lucie, Florida. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Concordia Village, 4101 West Iles, Springfield, Illinois, on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Jeff Harter and Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke officiating. A reception will be held following in the Harmony Room adjacent to the chapel with light refreshments served. Inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11:00 am.
