

William Dale Lamkins, 77, of Springfield, formerly of Hannibal, MO died at 6:07 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center. Dale was born September 17, 1928 in Winnipeg, MO the son of William and Alma Allen Lamkins. He married Beverly “Becky” Rettig on October 4, 1986 at Southside Christian Church in Springfield. Mr. Lamkins served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received a Korean Service Medal, 3 Bronze Service Stars and a United Nations Service Medal. After returning from serving in the U.S. Army, he continued his employment with CILCO as a lineman and after 60 years of service he retired in 1984. Dale attended Southside Christian Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife: Anna Jo Zappa in 1982. He is survived by wife: Beverly Lamkins; daughter: Carol Ann Nemecek of Springfield; stepson: Jeff Rettig (wife, Tammy) of Auburn; two stepdaughters: Kim Rettig of Springfield and Kathy Wurtzler (husband, Vic) of Rochester; two grandchildren: Charles (wife, Stephanie), Jr. and Christopher Nemecek; five stepgrandchildren: Jennifer and Christopher Stratton, John Rettig, Becca and Stephanie Wurtzler; five greatgrandchildren; three sisters: Lois Chatham and Luceil Van Loon both of Cottage Grove, OR, Lela Purcell of Gresham, OR; one brother: Dean (wife, Betty) Lamkins of Red Bluff, CA and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Grand View Funeral Home, 11116 Highway 61, Hannibal, MO with Rev. Tim Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO where military honors will be performed.
