He was born on March 17, 1932 in Port Huron, MI, the son of the late George and Laura (Alexander) Morton. He married Sally Gregory on March 4, 1953 in St. Clair, MI.
After graduating from Port Huron High School in Port Huron, MI, he attended Port Huron Junior college, Oakland University in Rochester, MI, and General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. Mr. Morton worked as a service representative for General Motors Pontiac Division. After retiring from General Motors, he worked for the State of Kentucky, and later for The Children’s Museum in Indianapolis. IN. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Marshall Islands during the Korean War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield and was a life-member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge #9 in St. Clair, MI.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 children, William E. Morton, Jr. of South Bend, IN, Charles G. Morton of Akron, OH, and Susan (husband Greg) Akers of Springfield; 3 grandchildren, Heather (husband Julian) Mayle, Justin Morton, and Brad Akers; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Barbara Jean Morton, and 2 brothers Lloyd and Stanley Morton.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, Springfield. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 from 10 am until time of the memorial service at 11 am at First United Methodist Church, 2924 Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, IL 62711.
