Duke was born December 9, 1934 in Springfield, the son of Conway and Martha Adkins Wallbaum.
Duke proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1959. He attended Western Military Academy in Alton, IL from 1948-1953. He retired from the Illinois Department of Human Services. He was a past member of the Eagles Club #3587. He enjoyed collecting cuckoo clocks and steins and was an avid Illini Football and NASCAR fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his “brother from another mother,” Patrick Eldredge.
He is survived by his very good friends, Michael Hudspeth of Springfield, Betty Jean Eldredge of Springfield; and several cousins.
Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Ashland Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Ashland, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating and military honors by the Department of Defense.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
