

Willis �Bill� H. Kirkton, 86, of Chatham, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011. He was born on October 6, 1925 in Gridley, Illinois, the son of Donald T. and Veida Bigger Kirkton. On January 1, 1946, he married Eileen Mool in El Paso, IL. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Thomas Kirkton. Mr. Kirkton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen; daughters Carolyn (Fred L.) Compardo of Pawnee and Barbara Jean (Richard) Hand of Petersburg; son David Willis (Soon H.) Kirkton of O�Fallon, IL; grandchildren � Carrie Jo, Megan, David, Kimberly, Jennifer, Jeffrey; great grandchildren Elle Joellyn, Cole, Emily, Megan, Joshua and a baby boy due late October; step-grandchildren Kristy and Jason; step-great grandchildren Cole, Paige and Layla; and brother John C. (Mary) Kirkton of Minonk, IL. Mr. Kirkton served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force in the Second Air Division. He hosted reunions for the men of his unit. Mr. Kirkton was the owner and operator of CAPS, Inc., a wholesale auto parts store, where he retired October 1, 2010. He was a member of Chatham Christian Church, Auburn American Legion Post 277, and Chatham VFW Post 4763. Mr. Kirkton was the Vice chairman of the Sangamon County Veterans Commission. He volunteered his time in driving veterans to the VA Hospitals. He loved his garden and could be found there tending to his roses. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11, from 4-7pm at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Visitation will be at Chatham Christian Church, Wednesday, October 12, beginning at 9am. Funeral services will follow at 10am, Rick Wenneborg, officiant, with burial at Chatham Cemetery.
