He was born April 8, 1928, in Acuto, a small town near Rome in Italy. He was the son of Antonio Meloni and Assunta Agostini.
He lived in Acuto until 1933 and then moved to Rome. He received a degree in Accounting and worked at the Ministry of Public Works for over 20 years. He then established a gift box factory and sold his beautiful boxes all over Italy with Fendi being one of his major clients.
He met Christine Foster in Rome in 1966. They were married and lived in Rome until 1976. They then moved to the United States with their two sons. They lived on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for one year and then moved to Springfield, VA.
He was first and foremost a family man. Nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and godfather. He was active in the life of his sons as they were growing up; he was involved in their Boy Scout troops and athletic activities, in particular, soccer, basketball, swimming, and diving. He was also an extremely loyal friend and the word most often used to describe him was kind.
He thrived on the love he received from the members of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. The church community meant a great deal to him and became his family. He served as usher for many years. He was also head of the Greeters and a member of the Green Shoes team for several years. He was a member of the choir for a brief time as well. He volunteered for several of the church’s outreach activities including FACETS and ECHO.
He was a World War II buff. He read everything he could get his hands on about this war, especially the European theater. He had many interesting personal stories to share about growing up in Rome during the war years.
Andrea is survived by his wife Christine and three children, Nicoletta (Francesco) of Rome; Adriano (Lara) of Milan, Italy; and Marcello (Michelle) Meloni of Ashburn, VA.
He is also survived by his sister Elisabetta (Giuseppe) Martucci of Acuto; his brother Mario Meloni of Acuto; five grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lucia and brother Giovanni Meloni.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Andrea’s name to St. Christopher’s Church earmarked for Outreach at 6320 Hanover Street, Springfield, VA 22150.
