Arthur Taylor Ward

CDR Arthur Taylor Ward, USN (Ret.), passed at age 91, on March 15, 2019 at his home in Annandale, VA. He was born June 15, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH. Devoted husband of the late Esther Johnson Ward and father of the late Arthur T. Ward, Jr.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Bowen and husband John, Jenny Caro and husband John, Jessica Ward, sister Alice Schantz. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many cousins.
He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945. After a tour of duty on the USS F.D. Roosevelt he entered the US Naval Academy in 1947 with the class of 1951. He served on many ships rising to Commodore of a Division of four ships. He attended many schools, earning a Masters Degree, the last school being the US Naval War College. He retired in 1973 with rank of Commander and was the recipient of the Bronze Star with 'V, Meritorious Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and many other service medals. As a civilian CDR Ward worked 22 years at the Naval Reserve Assoc. as a record consultant.
A private memorial service with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date where he will be buried along with Esther, his wife of 64 years.
