Born on February 24, 1930, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Barbara was the oldest child of George and Dorothy Gammon. She proudly embraced her role as a military spouse, supporting her husband Roland “Rusty” Dionne throughout his military career. They were married on November 4, 1950, and together shared nearly 75 years of love, laughter, and adventure.
Barbara and Rusty split their time between their homes in Annandale, Virginia, and Estero, Florida—spending six months in each—where they built decades of memories with friends and family.
They raised their daughter, Tracy Ann Barringer (John), with love and devotion in Annandale, VA. Barbara was a proud and doting grandmother to JT Barringer (Stephanie) and Thomas Barringer (Katie), and she found immense joy in her great-grandchildren: Jack and Anna Barringer, and Liam and Averi Barringer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Gammon, and her brother, George Gammon Jr., sister Jeanie Doyle and niece Paula Waterman.
Barbara had a vibrant spirit and lived life to the fullest. She was an avid golfer, a sharp card player, a loyal shopping companion, and always ready for her next travel adventure. And no matter the occasion—big or small—Barbara was always dressed to the nines, with her signature style and grace shining through. She was also a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and found strength and purpose in her faith.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Rusty Dionne; her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and John Barringer; her grandchildren and their spouses, JT and Stephanie Barringer, and Thomas and Katie Barringer; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jack, Anna, Liam, and Averi. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandy Ward (Maury) and Willa Ryerson (David).
A memorial service will be held at Fort Myers Military Base on Wednesday October 8, 2025 at 2:45pm, with interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the team at HOPE Hospice and the caregivers from Mind and Mobility for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TBD.
