

Barbara Bray Lynch (nee Sullivan), of Springfield, Va. passed away on October 2, 2012. Born in Boston, Mass., on July 6, 1929, Mrs. Lynch attended Boston State Teachers’ College (now, University of Massachusetts) and began her teaching career in Boston. She married Francis X. Lynch (deceased) in 1952. The couple had three children: Daniel F. Lynch, of Burke, Grace E. Lynch and Joan M. Lynch both of Alexandria. The family moved to Virginia in 1968.
Mrs. Lynch taught sixth grade for the Fairfax County Public Schools for over 20 years. She was a founding member of the Accotink Unitarian/Universalist Church in Burke and was an early and active member of George Mason University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Fairfax.
Mrs. Lynch was a member of several book clubs and helped organize a salon for public affairs. She travelled extensively and enjoyed theater and reading.
Mrs. Lynch is survived by her three children, her grandchildren, Heather Lynch of Port Jefferson, NY, Brendan Gilmartin of Brooklyn, NY and Rory Gilmartin of New York City, and her great-granddaughter, Avery Eisaman. She is also survived by Grace Lynch’s husband, Edward Gilmartin, Heather Lynch’s husband, Matt Eisaman, her niece, Susan Barna, and many dear friends and neighbors throughout the area.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 2 p.m. at the Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church, 10125 Lakehaven Court, Burke, Va.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
