Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.demainefunerals.com for the D'Ambrosio family.
Bernard F. D'Ambrosio of Cambridge, Massachusetts passed away in his sleep on February 22, 2023 at his independent living facility in Greenspring of Springfield, VA.
Bernard was born to Anna Helen (Dareski) D'Ambrosio in Cambridge, Massachusetts (MA) on February 28, 1932. He attended Somerville High School, enlisting in the USMC with his brother Robert "Bobby," both serving in the 1st MARDIV during the Korean War from 1952-54. Their time together is memorialized on an engraved brick at the USMC Museum in Quantico.
Upon returning from Korea, Bernard married Eileen A. O'Brien of Somerville, MA on August 28, 1954 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cambridge, MA. He graduated from USC in Southern California, then earned a Master's degree from Tuft's University at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 1959. Fully enjoying his contributions as an Operations Officer during his 28 year career in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from 1959 to 1987 he served in Burma (Myanmar) twice, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Honolulu, Hawaii where he retired. Before departing Hawaii, forming Peacock Jewelry in Bangkok, Thailand, he led the Lao Community Center of Hawaii on Oahu.
Bernard "Bernie" was preceded in death by his spouse whom he referred to as his girlfriend of 72 years, Eileen A. O'Brien. She passed on August 30, 2020 while they lived in Melbourne, Florida. He never stopped talking about her, and always had interesting stories to tell about their childhood, growing up, and about their life together in Asia.
Choosing never to inconvenience anyone, Bernie requested a small graveside vigil to inter his ashes into the mausoleum at Section A-W-2 grave #: 5 E-16 in the Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA, where Eileen was interred in 2021. Here, on March 8, 2023 they will be reunited for eternity.
