Blanca was born on November 10th, 1936, in Trujillo, Peru to Angelica Jara and Duarte Mercado, and raised by Angelica and Quintiliano Bueno. She spent her childhood in Casa Grande Hacienda before moving to Lima, where she would eventually meet her future husband, Alfonso Fulsido Carhuancho Romero. Growing up, Blanca was known for her happiness, smile, and green eyes – her town endearingly referred to her as “Zarquita” or “green-eyed girl.” As a teenager, she was nominated and crowned “Queen of Casa Grande” during her town’s annual celebration. Blanca had many talents, including dance – she was the first person to dance Argentine tango in her hometown’s theater.
On December 12th, 1957, Blanca and Alfonso were married in Piura, Peru. They were the perfect couple who embraced challenges together – for example, Alfonso served in the Peruvian Air Force and Blanca raised their seven wonderful children. For 27 years, they made their home in Lima, Peru until Alfonso was appointed to the Embassy of Peru Air Attache in Washington, D.C. On December 29th, 1984, Blanca, Alfonso, and their children arrived in Virginia, which would be their home for years to come. It is where Blanca continued to devote her life to her children, teaching them how to become remarkable adults who valued family, kindness, and joy. Virginia would be their home until Blanca and Alfonso departed this world, and it is where that not-so-little family of nine has grown into a family of 30.
Blanca’s favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She was lovingly called “Mama Pina” by her grandchildren, and that is how she came to be known to everyone who met her.
Blanca’s life was her family, and her legacy is her family.
Blanca is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Alfonso Fulsido Carhuancho Romero. She is survived by her seven children: Nancy (Richard), Blanca (Ricardo), Alfonso “Ponti,” Veronica (Larry), Edualter (Sabrina), Iris (Omar), and Gloria (Eric). Her memory lives on in her grandchildren: Blanca (Felix), Arthur (Reka), Alfonso, Marcia (Carolyn), Nicole, Ronnie, Jasmine, Marcella, Michelle, Dylan, Ireland, and Alexander, as well as her great-grandchildren: Ricky and Sergio.
