

Bobby Benjamin Simmons passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Aldie, Virginia. He was born in Montrose, Georgia to James Benjamin Simmons and Mabel Olivia Butler. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Joyce (Holland) Simmons; sons Reginald (Gina) and Mike (Sue); five grandchildren, Ryan (Jenna), Jessica, Tyler (Kelly), Lauren (Ty) and Lindsay (Brandon); and four great-grandchildren, Nora, Alice, Nolan, and Amelia.
Bobby grew up in Macon, Georgia and is a graduate of Mercer University. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Among his many assignments, he served in Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Pirmasens, Germany, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and Stuttgart, Germany. He was an extremely dedicated officer and a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, serving 28 years and retiring as a Colonel. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army, he continued to work for his country another 20 years in the Northern Virginia area as a member of Lockheed Martin.
In retirement, Bobby was able to concentrate on his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing, and gardening, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a well-loved neighbor and friend to many, but mostly a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, June 10, at 1:00 PM at the Demaine Funeral home in Springfield, Virginia. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
