Daniel Harry Demand

Captain Daniel Harry Demand, USN (Ret.), died peacefully on September 21, 2018 in Fairfax, VA after a short battle with cancer. He was 83 years old.
Dan was born on May 31, 1935 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Erhart and Emma Demand.
He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1958. After graduating, he attended flight school and was designated a naval aviator. He enjoyed his naval career which included duty stations in Maine, California, Rhode Island, Florida, and aboard the USS Hancock (CVA-19). He was also deployed to the western Pacific and Vietnam. Dan reported to the pentagon in 1974 and after 27 years of service, he retired from the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1985. After retiring from the Navy, Dan went to work with Systems Research and Applications Corporation as a consultant.
Dan was respected and loved by family and friends. His pastimes included watching Navy football games, playing golf, reading, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. He volunteered for many years at Fairfax hospital and Pinecrest Golf Course. Throughout his career and even in his retirement, he took pleasure in reminiscing and sharing stories about his years of flying.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family, which includes his wife of 46 years, Barbara; children, Jennifer Bauman (and her husband, Pep), Lisa Demand, Brian Grafton (and his wife Megan) and Paula Treger (and her husband Steve); six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
