As a boy, Don had a passion for all things aviation. He spent his life furthering that passion first as a commercial pilot then in his 30 year career with the FAA. Don distinguished himself in many ways; as Air traffic Controller in Flight Service, as the NW Mountain Region VP for the Union, and recently at FAA headquarters in D.C.
Don earned his BA and MA at UC Santa Barbara. Don’s greatest gifts live on in his son, Ian, and his daughter, Katie. He is survived by his long-term partner, Pat Spatarella, his former wife, Terri McLennan, and his niece Leslee Anne Briggs. His parents, and sister Susan predeceased him. Don is much loved and greatly missed.
A Celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield VA, 22151, Thursday October 4th at 4 p.m. if wishing to honor Don, please contribute to The American Cancer Society, Special Olympics or ASPCA.
