Of Springfield, VA, passed away on June 10, 2016 with her family by her side. Dorothy was born and raised in Winchester, VA, and was the last of the Cornell family to pass away. She was 79 years old. She leaves behind WJ Leonard, her husband of 58 years, as well as her only son Richard, daughter-in-law Melany, and grandson Bryan.
Dorothy had many adventures around the world, and came to settle in Springfield, VA, being the wife of a military husband. Dorothy was a great wife and mother to her son, a wonderful mother-in-law to Melany, and a super funny grandmother to Bryan. She was a great person, kind in all ways that mattered and was a great friend to all. She was a life member of VFW Post 7327.
During her days of working as a waitress, cashier, or office personnel, she was hard working and gave everyone a smile and a hello. She taught us when you have a job to do; you give 110% to it, and also give your friend the same amount. She was a mother first, my best friend in the world, and I will miss her with all my heart.
Always in our hearts, forever, Mom.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 17 from 4-8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. A short presentation will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 18 at Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery, 1270 Front Royal Pike (Rte 522), Winchester, VA 22602.
