Dottie Hoa Crawford

Dottie Hoa Crawford, 86, of Springfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in Springfield, Virginia after a long 20 year battle with Alzheimer's. Dottie was born on June 20, 1937 in Long An, Vietnam to Pham Thi Tan and Nguyen Van Dao. She spent the majority of her childhood and teenage years in Long An, Vietnam. She met her husband, Charles Lewis Crawford, Jr. while he was stationed in Saigon, Vietnam with the US Army. They were married on April 4, 1963 in Saigon, Vietnam and this began her journey to America. She was a military Army wife until her husband retired in 1974. Dottie loved to work and was a civilian employee for the US Government Department of Defense for 22 years. She worked as a cashier at the Commissary and Post Exchange at Cameron Station, and as an accounting clerk at Arlington Hall Station and Fort Belvoir base in Virginia where she retired. Dottie loved to cook, especially her authentic Vietnamese food including her famous shrimp rolls, which has become a family tradition and is served at all family gatherings. Dottie is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lewis Crawford and her brother Nguyen The Xuong. Dottie is survived by her children, Way Crawford, Paul Crawford, Pattie Crawford, her grandchildren, Kayla (Austin) Uphoff, Sean Sechrist, Carly Crawford, Kendall Crawford, Jack Crawford and her great grandchildren, Elias Uphoff and Theodore Uphoff and her many extended family members including her brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to her son, Way Crawford, who was Dottie's primary caregiver for the duration of her illness, allowing her a peaceful life and passing at home. Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date to be determined. Arrangements will be made by Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia.
