

Of Springfield, VA passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022. Ed was born in Ashland, KY, lived in Huntington, WV, Washington, D.C. then Arlington, VA where he graduated from Washington-Lee High School. He attended the University of Richmond for two years and played baseball. Ed spent 6 years in the Army where he worked at the White House as part of the Army Signal Agency under President Eisenhower’s administration. Ed and his wife Sandy were married in 1958 in Tampa, FL and moved to Falls Church, VA then to North Springfield, VA in 1967 where they lived their entire lives. Ed worked for Western Electric for 31 years. He spent a large portion of his life involved in community service. Ed was a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 60 years and was Minister of Facilities for much of that time, was Chairman of the Beautification Committee for North Springfield, coached youth sports, umpired high school softball, and would cut anyone’s grass that needed it. He was a member of NVSS (Northern Virginia Senior Softball) for 27 years, was a Board member for 5 years, and served as umpire-in-chief in the late 1990s.
Ed is the son of the late Reverend Walter F. Stock and Clara Stock; beloved husband of the late Sandra L. Stock; cherished father of Charles E. and his wife Kelly Stock of Fairfax, VA and Sharon S. and her husband Steve Groff of Darnestown, MD; adored grandfather of Alexandra and her husband Patrick Lowell, and Anna and Samantha Stock, and loving great-grandfather of Hank, Fiona, Teddy and George Lowell. Ed is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Ed enjoyed going to Washington Nationals games, playing and coaching softball, maintaining the entrances of North Springfield, attending his granddaughters’ and great-grandkids’ activities, vacationing in Tampa, FL and eating Willards BBQ.
A visitation to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at DEMAINE FUNERAL HOME, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 4th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001 on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the church. The Interment will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD at 2:00 p.m.
