Elizabeth I. Connolly

Elizabeth (Betty) was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 3, 1930 to Edward and Gertrude Hines. Elizabeth was one of five children raised in the Boston area. She is survived by her siblings Miriam Hines, Margaret Treseler, and George Hines all of West Roxbury, MA.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Roslindale High School and volunteered as a Gray Lady. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas F. Connolly on August 16, 1952 in the family church, St. Therese Catholic Church in West Roxbury. Elizabeth supported her husband’s military career moving away from the family she loved and traveled all over the United States and as far away as Turkey before settling down in Springfield, VA. She enjoyed walking in the Kings Park neighborhood that she loved, and sharing with neighbors who became her lifelong friends. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church often volunteering and sharing her faith. In her retirement, she moved to Greenspring where she became involved in numerous activities and volunteer programs, and enjoyed new and old friendships.

Elizabeth was blessed with six children; Mary Connolly of Voorhees, NJ, Diane Connolly of Lovettsville, VA, Donna (Doug) Earle of Spring Lake, NC, Thomas (Olga) Connolly of Quincy, FL, George (Lisa) Connolly of Bloomington, IN and Kathleen (Joseph) Gates of Woodbridge, VA. She was the proud grandmother of seven; Kevin (Kathryn) Earle of Newport News, VA, Brian (Ali) Earle of Alexandria, VA, Jacob, Colleen and Elizabeth Gates of Woodbridge, VA, Helena Connolly of Quincy, FL and Thomas Connolly of Bloomington, IN. The family is expecting the first great grandchild in July.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Francis Connolly of Springfield, VA; Brother, Andrew Hines of Randolph, MA, and her parents.

The family is grateful to Capital Caring Hospice Services and the many providers who lovingly cared for their mother. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society and Capital Caring Hospice Services in her honor.
