George was born in Santorini, Greece and raised on the island of Syros, capital of the Cycladic islands. After graduation he became an officer in the Greek Merchant Marines traveling the world and was recognized for outstanding seamanship and courage by the National Maritime Union of America. He began his contracting career in New York City, later moving to northern Virginia where he established his own company.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jenna Arvanitis, and two daughters, Demitrianna (Gravilis) Zannis, Syros, Greece and Dominique (Chittum) Anthony, Alexandria, VA and two grandchildren, Silas Chittum and Kyveli Gavrilis.
A memorial ceremony will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, VA on September 17, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Shriner's Hospital for Children.
