

Klopp, Geraldine Elizabeth (93) passed away peacefully on May 30, 2014 one week before her 94th birthday, in Burke, Virginia. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Frederick Klopp (U.S. Army – Retired), her brothers Donald Hartman and Robert Hartman, and her sister Dorothy Dissinger. She is survived by a son Charles Klopp and his wife Rosey, of North Branch, MN, a daughter, Barbara Parker and her husband Jay, of Silverdale, WA, and a daughter, Marcia Bassler and her husband Robert of Springfield, VA, grandchildren Amy (Rick) Hall of Okinawa, Japan, Jessica (Ken) Wolf of Richlands, NC, Nathan (Ginie) Klopp of Apple Valley, MN, Daniel (Shannah) Parker of Silverdale, WA, Alison (Mike) Feeney of Burke, VA, and Steven (Michelle) Bassler of Springfield, VA, and 17 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hadassah, Sarah, Josiah, Leah, Marah, and Elijah Hall, Kooper and Garret Wolf, Paul, Luke, and John Klopp, Daniel Parker, Connor and Nora Feeney, and Ben and Avery Bassler. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Betty and Alby Hartman, and many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.
Geraldine was born June 6, 1920 in Dover, Delaware, the third child of Benjamin and Amy (Yost) Hartman. She lived most of her childhood in Reading, PA, graduating from Reading High School in 1938 and then secretarial school. In 1935 she had the honor of meeting Eleanor Roosevelt in recognition of a paper she wrote on citizenship. She married her husband on May 16, 1942 and accompanied him on military assignments that took them to Germany, France, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, California Kansas and Arizona. She loved all the travelling she was able to do as an Army wife. She was most proud of the fact that she visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and several European countries. Geraldine and her husband moved to Tucson, AZ following his retirement from a 22 year career in the Army. She remained in Tucson for 44 years. She worked many years for Southern Arizona Bank (now Wells Fargo after many name changes). She successfully defeated breast cancer and recently celebrated her 46th year as a survivor. She moved to Burke VA in 2008 to be closer to family and medical care.
