

A native of Greenwood, Arkansas, and the youngest of seven children, she moved to Northern Virginia in 1951 and worked for the federal government at the Federal Trade Commission and then at the Commission on Civil Rights before staying at home to raise a family.
A lifelong Methodist, she was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, was an avid reader, and enjoyed classical music, the theater, and ballroom dancing.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Boyd Brown and Helene Milner, of Santa Cruz, CA; her grandson Shelton Brown; her sister, Edith Marie Witcher of Indio, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017, 2 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church 5312 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA 22151.
