Mrs. Hazel Florice (Brown) Marshall, 89 of Springfield, Virginia passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at The Adler Center in Aldie, Virginia. Born in Climax, Georgia on January 28, 1929, she had lived in Waycross Georgia during her early childhood years. Mrs. Marshall was a 1946 graduate of Warner Robbins High School, a graduate of the Barrett School of Nursing, in 1950. She was married to John Lee Marshall Jr. on the 23rd of November 1956 in Atlanta, Georgia. She then obtained her Master's Degree in Nursing from Emory University in 1960. In 1990 she completed her doctorate degree of education (Ed. D) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Hazel taught nursing at Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia and the University of the District of Columbia from where she retired from in 2001. She enjoyed reading, listening to and singing music as well as baking. She was a loving wife and dearly devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Marshall was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Springfield, Virginia for over 40 years, where she was a member of the Singing Saints & Bells of Praise hand bells, and she led the Senior Adult Hand chime group, the Golden Chimers. She was the daughter of the late John R. Brown & Lottie Hester Brown Bazemore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Marshall Jr.; four sisters, Eula Leigh Brown, Sue Prather, Myrtle B. Kerr, Ruby Louis Heil; and one brother, John F. Brown. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Joyia Marshall of Fairfax, Virginia and her grandson, Daniel Titus of Springfield, Virginia, her brother Paul Barry of San Diego, California and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives. Visitation for Mrs. Marshall will be held Thursday, July 12th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, July 13th at 11:00 am at St. John's United Methodist Church in Springfield, Virginia. Graveside services for Mrs. Marshall will be private.
