

Helen Smith passed peacefully at the age of 93 from this life the morning of January 11th, 2017. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Helen was born in Black Creek, NC, moved to Arlington in 1944 and then was married and moved to Annandale,VA in 1953 and her last few years in Germantown, MD. Helen was an active member of Annandale United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was the church librarian, was involved in the church choir and the bell ringing choir. She retired at the age of 88 working full time for National Heritage Foundation.
Helen is survived by her two daughters Linda Kurkowski and Andrea Register and son-in-law Ted Kurkowski. Helen, also fondly known as Gram is survived by her three grandchildren, Robyn Wade, Gena Womack and Andrew Saulitis Jr., and 6 great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Mason, Lauryn, Jackson, Spencer and Kaylee Grace. Helen is also survived by her brothers Eugene Hooks and Alvin Hooks. She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Smith (Smitty).
