

Iowakah (Wakie) was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on February 26, 1923. She was raised in Bath County, Virginia, and met her husband in Washington DC. They Settled in Springfield, Virginia where they raised their family. Wakie worked for the government as a statistical assistant for many years.
Faith was very important to Wakie. She was a devoted and longtime member of Westwood Baptist Church in Springfield, and attended regular services as a resident of Greenspring Village. Amongst the many things that brought her joy in life were chocolate, jelly beans, and caramel corn, playing Rummikub and bingo, and sitting by the ocean on the Outer Banks, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and eating crabs on St. Michael with her family.
A service to celebrate Iowakah’s life will be held on Sunday, July 23 at 1:30 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, led by her cherished friend Terry Maples. Burial will be private.
