Jim’s passion was caring for people and animals, by working with various organizations and the community.
He touched so many with his warm smile, hugs, genuine laugh, sage guidance and the sharing of his compassionate heart.
Jim attended Annandale High School, studied and worked as a Veterinarian technician, started and ran a small retail business. However, his love creativity and helping people lead him into the world of party planning and catering. Jim’s talents and welcoming personality were sought-after throughout the DMV and often found himself logging many hours traveling from event to event. As an avid animal lover, Jim decided he would focus on volunteer helping to care for unhoused animals. Many will tell you, he was not shy about letting those who he felt were not providing appropriate care to do so. Jim would often help others care for and locate their lost pets, often providing short-term foster care.
Jim’s willingness to help others received recognition by the Supervisor of Braddock District, as Braddock Districts Community Champion. He assembled and lead neighbors to help several elderly neighbor with household and yard tasks. He brought together the resources and people, at times he lead crews of over 30 community volunteers, who repaired appliances, cleaned gutters, removed furniture, cleaned homes, mowed yards and more. Jim was always able to provide the right care solutions, no matter the situation.
Jim left behind his beloved siblings Sharon Stutzke and Mike Bertolini and extended family, many friends and supporters. His parents, Leo and Dorothy Bertolini of Springfield Virginia, preceded in death.
Jim left us too soon; we were so blessed having known his kindness and generosity. His smile, kind words and warm hugs will be missed.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be announced in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
