James Robert Holleran
04/09/1929 – 12/13/2018
James Robert Holleran, son of James Leo and Elizabeth Pearl Holleran, was born in Mayfield, Pennsylvania, and grew up one of seven children in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Carbondale’s Benjamin Franklin High School in 1946, enlisted in the Army and served for two years before ending his military service as a Corporal. He attended Scranton University for two years before embarking on an over 30-year career with the federal government. His federal service took him overseas for the majority of his career. He met and married Harriet Turner when they were both working in North Africa. They were happily married for 55 years until last year, when Harriet passed away. They had five children together. In retirement, Jim enjoyed walking through the neighborhood, traveling, watching boxing, reading non-fiction, doing crossword puzzles, working around the house and on the family car, and life with his family. He is survived by his children Nan Holleran, Rose Brown (Jeff), Jim Holleran (Sreypov), Ted Holleran, and Frank Holleran, and granddaughters Emily Brown, and Noorah and Nadiah Aldaghlas. He also leaves behind his brother Terry Holleran and sister Ellen Endres, and many loving nieces and nephews. An open casket viewing and memorial reception will be held on December 20, 2018, between 11am and 2pm at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, Virginia.
