It is with sadness that the family of James Nelson Young Sr. announces his passing on July 10, 2017. Born on May 6th, 1929, Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family fiercely and deeply and will be profoundly missed. Jim's prestigious military career spanned 33 years and included both active and reserve duty where he rose to the rank of Colonel. Jim earned a Bachelor's of Science from Virginia Tech (VPI), two Master's - one from George Washington University and the other from Southeastern University, and he also earned a Doctorate from George Washington University. While proudly serving his country, Jim concurrently worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Federal Government as well as teaching at several universities in the Metropolitan area. As a key government official for more than 43 years, Jim made significant contributions to both National Security, Virginia and the Federal Government. After retirement, he taught Chemistry and Math at Woodbridge High School. After "complete" retirement, he enjoyed living part time on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. Immediately following the service, he will be buried with full military honors, at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, in Alexandria. After Jim is laid to rest, the family would love to reminisce with friends and loved ones at Greenspring Retirement Community.
Thank you so much!
