Jean was born in Weehawken, NJ to DeWitt and Anna Fisher in 1927. Raised close by in Bloomfield, she then earned her BS in Nursing from Columbia University. While working in Washington, she met and married Joseph Stonesifer in 1955 in Alexandria.
She worked as a nurse for a physician’s office for almost 35 years – and when the office closed, she was the newest staff member! She was an active member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Annandale for four decades. Trained as a ballerina, she enjoyed and taught aerobics into her 90’s.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and her parents, as well as her brother, Lee Fisher and his wife, Beverley.
Jean is survived by her children: Joseph, John (Susan), and Jene Lyons (David); grandchildren Sarah Stonesifer Boylan (Brooks), Taylor Stonesifer, Joseph Stonesifer III (Amanda), John "Jack" Stonesifer, Jr (Jessica), Anna Stonesifer, and Cameron and Carter Lyons; and great-grandchildren Maddox, Avery, and Natalie Stonesifer; and Russell Brooks Boylan, III.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 8th at the Village Church of Greenspring Village in Springfield. A private burial will follow at All Saints Church Cemetery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Arrangements are by Demaine Funeral Home of Springfield.
We encourage memorials to be given in her memory to the charity of your choice or to the Columbia University School of Nursing; 560 West 168th St, MC 6. New York, NY 10032.
