Jerry Mark Sare

Jerry Mark Sare, 96, of Dumfries, Virginia passed away at his home on May 9, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend; he will be greatly missed.

Jerry was born to Dorothy Patria and Bernard Milton Sare while traveling home to Buffalo, Wyoming and was the middle of seven children. The Sare family relocated to Alexandria, Virginia in the 1940s. Jerry enlisted into the US Air Force and served from 1950 to 1954 and was stationed in Germany. While serving, Jerry was honored to have been selected to play for the Air Force football team and toured much of Europe playing football. Upon his return to Alexandria, he married Cecelia Ann Lawter who preceded him in death. Jerry and Ann celebrated 44 years of marriage before her death in 1998. Together, Jerry and Ann raised two daughters and welcomed five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren into the family. Jerry remarried in 2000 to Sarah Macintyre Hines and gained four step children. Jerry and Sarah enjoyed many happy years together.

Jerry enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life; his greatest joy was golfing. He returned to Buffalo, Wyoming many times to play golf on his favorite course there. He will be remembered for his kindness and wonderful sense of humor.

Jerry is survived by his two daughters, Kristie Taylor (Marshall) of Burke, Virginia and Tracey Hartman (Dave) of Woodbridge, Virginia and his sister Janice Davies (Jimmy) of Frederick, Maryland. Jerry is also survived by his wife, Sarah and her children Roderick Hines (Dori), Michael Hines (Lois), Patricia Lese (Evan), and Megan Moore (Spencer). He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Bernard Sare, Bill Sare (June), Sheridan Farnsworth (Bill), Kate Robertson (Reg), Georgia Holsinger (Aubrey), Zack Sare, and his beloved great granddaughter, Madelyn Marye Hartman.

Funeral Services will be held on June 4, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Saint Albans Episcopal Church located in Annandale, Virginia. Repass will be held immediately following the service. Burial will be privately completed by the family.
