John Francis Hovell Sr.

John F. Hovell Sr. passed on April 17, 2019 at the age of 64. Born on July 10, 1954 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Hovell and Teresa (Cummings) Hovell. Married to his loving wife, Julie (Skelton) Hovell, for 41 years and a resident of Fairfax, Virginia, he was loved and cherished by his friends and family. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech as well as a Master’s of Public Administration from Indiana University. John was a proud grandfather and loved playing with his 4 grandchildren. In his free time he loved coaching basketball, playing his guitar, and watching Virginia Tech football and basketball. John worked for over 30 years as an IT Specialist for the Federal Government, as well a professor for Northern Virginia Community College. One of his many proud professional accomplishments included writing and publishing a textbook on database management. He is survived by his wife; Julie (Skelton) Hovell, sons; John Hovell Jr., Jason Hovell and Kevin Hovell, brothers; Joseph Hovell, Bill Hovell, sisters; Pat Harley, Teresa Rook, grandchildren; Camden Hovell, Michelle Hovell, Ava Hovell and Adam Hovell. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
